My Father Joseph Emmanuel L.B. KANYONGA
What I know about my father !
Joseph Emmanuel Kanyonga Lumembele Bidimpata, son of Georges munda-Nkulu Kanyonga wa Mwamba and Meta Dibue Marianne wa Mulumba. Joseph Emmanuel Kanyonga was born on 25th of December 1940 in Kananga in the Great province of Kasai before it was divided into two.He was the first born of his father Georges Munda-Nkulu Kanyonga and mother Meta Dibue Marianne.Joseph Emmanuel Kanyonga started his primary and high school in Kananga formerly Luluaburg.

After he finished, he was selected in 1957 by the Belgian authorities to joint the army, a decision that his father Georges did not accept and decided to fight with a lots of letters for his first born son not becoming a soldier.Fortunately, he (Georges) was helped by the Catholic priest who knew better the law which was governing the country at the time, the law which was preventing the first son in the family from joining the army and becoming soldier. Georges convinced the Belgian authorities, and Joseph was sent back home after two years of military services.

In 1960, Joseph Emmanuel was successfully admitted into the National School of Law and Administration called ‘ENDA ( Ecole Nationale de Droit et Administration) first promotion, he completed the studies for 5 years and became lawyer. In 1966, he was nominated chief prosecutor in Kananga and then national deputy public prosecutor, the position he held until he was suspended and later repealed by Joseph Desire Mobutu, then the president of the country, republic of Zaire in 1973 after he criticized the regime and its cronies in the books he published entitled “l’univers de la prostitution”, meaning “ The Universe of the Prostitution” and l’ennemie sommeille en toi”, meaning” The Enemy Lies in You” In 1974, when his young brother Pierre Mobateli Mulumba Kanyonga, who was representing the ruling party youth league in Belgium, came to visit him (Joseph Emmanuel) and found out that he was dismissed by the ruling party from the judiciary, he decided to resign and together decided to form a political party named MARC (Action movement for the resurrection of the Congo) in order to fight the Mobutu’s regime.After his young brother Pierre Kanyonga returned to Belgium and became the party secretary general with head office in Belgium.

From 1975, Joseph Emmanuel Kanyonga became subject to the persecutions organized by the Mobutu’s regime, accusing him of supplying the country’s information to his brother in Belgium to be published in their newspaper “MISO NGA”. In 1978, while Joseph Emmanuel decided to run for a political office in the parliament representing his province, the news came from the Belgium and French radio announcing that Pierre Mobateli Kanyonga was assassinated in his house by the non identified people who have pretended to be his family, he stopped the campaign and decided to run out of the country with his family, thing which was not easy because of many secret service members working for the Mobutu’s regime. He started running with his family from the province to province without success. Then, his father Georges Munda-Nkulu asked his to leave him the children and run for his life out of the country. Then, he left the country to Congo Brazzaville, where he was first arrested by the members of the secret service of the Mobutu’s regime then, taken over by the Brazzaville’s police, whose chief police was friend of his assassinated brother Pierre Mobateli who helped his to escape from the Mobutu’s secret service to Europe by boat for fear that he could be arrested at the airport.
